Orangutans are in crisis. Their habitat is rapidly shrinking due to land clearing for mining and unsustainable agriculture. This is pushing them toward extinction.
Over 80% of orangutans live in unprotected forests. This makes them highly vulnerable.
This is your chance to help save orangutans. Together we can save a critical area of lowland riverine habitat. It's home to one of the largest groups of Critically Endangered Sumatran orangutans.
With our partner, Forum Konservasi Leuser, we have identified 11,473 acres of vital rainforest in the South East Leuser Ecosystem. It’s under constant threat from encroachment and needs our urgent protection.
Due to strategic and political reasons, we can't reveal its exact location. Doing so may lead to increased land costs making it out of our reach.
This rainforest is key for orangutans and acts as a vital carbon sink against climate change. We are buying back land from local owners to restore and safeguard this habitat. To do so, we need to raise $3 million by 2027.
It's a big goal, but with your support, we know we can do it.
Our method of securing land for conservation has already been successful thanks to the support of donors like you. So far, we’ve protected 1.2 million acres, safeguarding 12,502 wild orangutans.
It is only by legally purchasing, leasing and managing key rainforest areas, and bringing them under permanent protection, that we can secure a future for orangutans and other endangered species.
A gift from you towards this special campaign will help to secure this critical area of lowland habitat and create a lasting impact for Critically Endangered Sumatran orangutans.
