Gokong

Gokong Putung now weighs 8kg and has had many developments over the last few months. He is starting to learn to eat fruits and vegetables. Like many toddlers, Gokong does not like his greens, preferring juicy fruits such as watermelon and pineapple. His milk feeds have been reduced to three times a day and he receives a total of 300mL.

Gokong developed an upper respiratory problem in July and he had a runny nose and cough. He received treatment at the clinic for two weeks and fully recovered. Gokong had diarrhea in August due to dietary changes which involved his milk feeds being reduced and fruits and vegetables being introduced slowly.

Gokong is a very active orangutan and has started moving, climbing and swinging well and with more confidence. Since July, Gokong has been introduced to other orangutans one by one to assess who are the most suitable companions for him. In September, Gokong was introduced to four other young male orangutans. At first Gokong was scared and cried however he quickly became accustomed to his new companions. He now loves playing with the other orangutans, especially one named Upin. Gokong is still vulnerable to temperature changes so he sleeps in the clinic at night and joins his group in the morning.
